These days people have even started using 3D printed puppets to create more complex characters. Alternatively, plastic puppets can be used to create characters with exaggerated features and movements. For example, animators can use foam puppets covered in fabric to create characters with soft features and realistic movements. The materials used and the animator’s skill level can significantly impact the final product. Puppet animation can be used to create a wide range of styles, from realistic to stylized. When these photographs are played back in sequence, the illusion of motion is created. The animator must carefully manipulate each puppet and take a photograph after each movement. This technique requires a lot of patience and skill, but the results can be stunning. Stop-motion puppet animation is one of the oldest forms of puppet animation and involves moving physical puppets one frame at a time. Puppets are often made from materials such as foam, fabric, or plastic, which can be manipulated to create lifelike movements and expressions. One of the most significant advantages of puppet animation is that it allows animators to create characters and objects that have a tangible quality. However, in recent years, puppet animation has become increasingly popular due to its unique look and feel. The art of puppetry has been used to tell stories and entertain people for centuries. Puppet animation is a fascinating style of animation that has been around for many years. Please note that Puppet animation is not directly applicable to Brush Ninja. The puppets can be made out of different materials like clay or fabric and can have different features like moving arms and legs or changing facial expressions. In the exploration stage, paper puppets will be animated according to the movement design while experimenting with the timing and frame rate of the stop motion to achieve the final results. Observation is conducted by studying the movements of real cats from online videos and direct observations and also studying how other animators animate cat characters in animated films. Literature review will study the characteristics of cats, body language, behaviour, and principles of animation especially timing and exaggeration. Qualitative observations and audio-visual materials are used to collect the data for references. The puppet along with the visual design, segmentations, and joints were done in previous research. In this qualitative research, puppet movements will be applied to quadruped cat characters in a public service announcement titled “Spay & Neuter”. The challenge lays in bringing out the characteristics and personality of the character through the limited medium of paper puppet. As we know, each character in animated movie has its own personality and unique to each other. When shooting and animating traditional paper cut out animation, the puppets are laid flat on a surface so they can only move in limited directions compared to conventional 2D or 3D animation. Physical paper puppets are inanimate objects, but when we’re speaking in terms of the production of traditional paper cut out animation, they become the actors and the souls that drive the movie.
